Why Do I Have to Keep Coming Back to the Chiropractor? - January 5, 2011
First of all, you don't "have to" do anything. Day to day life is really about "choose to's", not "have to's". Many people (including me) choose to go back to their chiropractor on a regular basis once they learn and experience the truth about why regular chiropractic care is necessary for those who place a high value on their health. The list of chiropractic benefits is lengthy.
Why do I have to brush my teeth on a regular basis? Why can't I brush once or twice and be done? Interestingly, I don't think I've ever heard anyone ask that question. Probably because the answer is obvious. If you don't take care of your teeth, you won't have them for very long! With western society's refined and processed diet, failing to brush your teeth would lead to an environment which allows cavity-creating bacteria to thrive. Thus, regular dental hygiene is required to maintain the health of your teeth and gums. Regular chiropractic care is like brushing your spine to keep cavities from showing up. A couple of the big differences here include the fact that if your spine decays it will have a much bigger impact on your health, and there isn't a suitable replacement for your spine, no spinal "dentures" available.
Unfortunately, life in western society is full of different types of emotional, physical and chemical stressors which cause spinal joints to misalign and get stuck. This condition, known chiropractically as the vertebral subluxation complex (aka spinal cavity), is associated with spinal degeneration (rotting of the spine), accelerated aging, and overall poor health. Thus, without regular spinal hygiene (chiropractic care), your spine will rot away and you will live a worse, shorter life.
So, do you "have to" go back to the chiropractor on a regular basis? No, but why wouldn't you?
